US Senators Call for Stability Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit

US-China relations have come into focus as a visiting bipartisan delegation of US senators urged stability and cooperation between the world’s two largest economies ahead of an upcoming leaders’ summit.

During discussions in Beijing, lawmakers emphasized the importance of de-escalation and mutual respect in US China relations, highlighting concerns over rising trade tensions and geopolitical competition between Washington and Beijing.

Senator Steve Daines, who led the delegation, stated that both nations should focus on stability rather than separation. His remarks came during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where economic and diplomatic priorities were discussed in detail.

The visit comes just days before US President Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to Beijing for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 14 and 15. The meeting is expected to address trade, security, and broader global cooperation issues.

The US China relations agenda is likely to include major economic topics, including trade balances and industrial cooperation. Senator Daines also expressed hope that the summit could lead to renewed commercial agreements, including potential aircraft purchases from Boeing.

According to reports, it has been nearly nine years since China last placed a major order for Boeing aircraft, a point raised during discussions as an example of stalled trade activity between the two countries.

Analysts believe the upcoming summit could play a critical role in shaping the future direction of US China relations, especially as both sides seek to manage competition while avoiding further escalation in economic and strategic tensions.
