China Fireworks Factory Blast Kills 37 in Hunan

The China fireworks factory blast in Hunan province has become the country’s deadliest industrial accident in recent years after the death toll climbed to 37. Chinese state media confirmed that one person is still missing while dozens remain injured following the powerful explosion in Liuyang city.

The explosion occurred on Monday afternoon at a fireworks manufacturing facility in Hunan province. Authorities said the blast happened around 4:40 p.m. local time and caused severe destruction across the factory area. Emergency rescue teams were immediately dispatched to control the fire and search for survivors.

Liuyang is widely known as China’s fireworks production hub, supplying nearly 60% of the country’s fireworks market and around 70% of global exports. The latest China fireworks factory blast has raised serious concerns about industrial safety standards in one of the world’s largest manufacturing sectors.

According to Chinese media reports, rescue operations at the site have now been completed. Officials confirmed that 51 injured individuals are receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals. Several victims suffered severe burns and injuries caused by the explosion and resulting fire.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident. Chinese police have reportedly questioned eight individuals suspected of responsibility for the deadly blast. The investigation is being supervised by the country’s top prosecutors to determine whether negligence or safety violations contributed to the disaster.

Following the tragedy, officials in Hunan ordered all fireworks factories in Liuyang to temporarily suspend operations for emergency safety inspections. The move aims to prevent further accidents as concerns grow over workplace safety in hazardous manufacturing industries across China.

The China fireworks factory blast has renewed memories of previous industrial disasters in the country. In 2019, a chemical plant explosion in Jiangsu province killed 78 people, highlighting ongoing safety challenges in China’s industrial sector. Experts say stricter enforcement of safety regulations will be critical to avoiding similar tragedies in the future.
