Pakistan has strongly stated at the United Nations that it will respond in self-defence to any terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan, as concerns over cross-border militancy continue to rise. The government emphasized that it will not remain passive in the face of growing threats.
Speaking during a UN Security Council debate, Pakistan’s envoy Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said the country has experienced a sharp increase in terrorist attacks linked to groups operating from Afghan territory. The statement reinforced Pakistan’s position on Pakistan Afghanistan Terrorism and its impact on regional security.
The envoy specifically highlighted the presence of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups allegedly operating freely inside Afghanistan. He warned that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and national security against all such threats under international law.
According to Pakistan, several attacks have been planned from Afghan soil and carried out using weapons left behind after the withdrawal of foreign forces. The growing Pakistan Afghanistan Terrorism threat, officials said, has created a serious security challenge along the border regions.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also criticized the Afghan authorities for failing to take verifiable action against terrorist groups. He stated that continued inaction contributes to instability and complicates efforts for regional peace and cooperation.
Pakistan reiterated that it has engaged in multiple diplomatic efforts with regional partners, including Qatar, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and China, to resolve the security situation. However, officials stressed that the Pakistan Afghanistan Terrorism issue cannot be ignored if attacks continue to target civilians and security forces.
The envoy concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace while clearly stating that self-defence remains a legitimate option. He added that long-term stability in Afghanistan is in the best interest of both countries and the wider region.
