China renews call for restraint as US-Iran tensions rise

China has renewed its appeal for calm amid growing US Iran tensions, urging both countries to avoid further military escalation following a fresh exchange of attacks. Beijing expressed concern after the latest developments raised fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking in Beijing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China was closely monitoring the situation and remained deeply concerned by the rising tensions. He called on all parties involved to act responsibly and prevent the crisis from worsening.

The statement came after the US military carried out air strikes on Iranian military targets. According to US officials, the attacks were launched in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter earlier this week, adding another layer to the ongoing US Iran tensions.

Iran responded by announcing retaliatory strikes on several American military facilities in the region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington had chosen to test Tehran’s resolve, signaling that tensions between the two countries remain high despite diplomatic efforts.

China urged both sides to remain calm, exercise restraint, and take practical measures to reduce hostilities. Lin stressed that military confrontation would only increase instability and called for immediate efforts aimed at lowering tensions through dialogue.

Beijing also emphasized the importance of diplomacy at a time when negotiations between Iran and the United States are considered critical. Chinese officials warned that any new military confrontation could undermine ongoing diplomatic initiatives and further complicate regional security challenges.

China reiterated that military force cannot provide a lasting solution to disputes. As US Iran tensions continue to attract global attention, Beijing called for respect for national sovereignty and urged all parties to work toward a comprehensive and durable ceasefire through political and diplomatic channels.
