A new CNN report has claimed that Israel Secret Bases in Azerbaijan played a significant role during the recent conflict with Iran. According to the report, Israel secretly deployed elite military and intelligence personnel to locations in Azerbaijan as part of a wider regional network designed to support operations against Iran.
The report, citing four informed sources, stated that Israeli forces operated from multiple sites in southern Azerbaijan. Some of these locations were reportedly situated about 60 miles from the Iranian city of Tabriz, which was targeted during the conflict. The deployment allegedly allowed Israel to strengthen surveillance and operational capabilities near Iran’s northern border.
According to CNN, the facilities were used by Israeli special operations units, intelligence personnel, and drone operators. These teams reportedly gathered intelligence and conducted drone-related missions that enabled closer monitoring of developments inside northern Iran throughout the conflict.
The report described the Israel Secret Bases in Azerbaijan as part of a broader network of covert positions established across the Middle East. Similar facilities were allegedly maintained in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Somaliland. Initially intended as emergency rescue and support centers, some locations were later expanded into military and intelligence hubs.
CNN also reported that the Azerbaijani-based units included members of Israeli special forces, elite airborne rescue teams, and intelligence officers. One of the operations allegedly linked to these deployments involved targeting a senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard intelligence official identified as Rahman Moqaddam on March 4.
A day after that reported operation, a drone attack allegedly struck an airport in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region. The report suggested that the incident highlighted the growing regional dimensions of the confrontation between Israel and Iran during the conflict period.
However, Azerbaijan strongly rejected the allegations. A spokesperson for Azerbaijan’s embassy in Washington dismissed claims that Azerbaijani territory was used for operations against a third country, calling the accusations baseless. The report follows previous media claims regarding alleged Israeli facilities in Iraq and the deployment of air defense assets in the United Arab Emirates.
