KARACHI: Pakistan is observing Defence and Martyrs Day today with national pride and enthusiasm, paying tribute to the soldiers and citizens who contributed to the country’s defence. Special ceremonies are being held across the country to remember the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s sovereignty and security.
Defence and Martyrs Day is observed every year on September 6 to commemorate the events of the September 1965 war. Sixty-one years ago, Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation responded to an attack launched under the cover of darkness. The day has since become an important reminder of national unity, courage and sacrifice.
In Karachi, a special ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Quaid to mark Defence and Martyrs Day. Pakistan Air Force cadets took over guard duties at the mausoleum as part of the commemorative event. Air Vice Marshal Hassan Faisal, Air Commanding at PAF Academy Asghar Khan, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Faisal said the Pakistan Air Force has consistently worked to meet the expectations of the nation. He said the force has remained committed to serving Pakistan during difficult circumstances and stressed that the country’s airspace remains under the protection of the Pakistan Air Force.
The air vice marshal also emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to peace while making it clear that the country would not compromise on its sovereignty. He said the Pakistan Air Force had responded effectively to Indian aggression last year, reiterating the force’s commitment to protecting the country.
He further said that under the leadership of the Chief of Air Staff, modern defence systems and advanced technology have strengthened Pakistan’s defence capabilities. He paid tribute to all martyrs and acknowledged their sacrifices for the country. The ceremony also highlighted the continuing importance of maintaining strong national defence.
