Election campaigning for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Elections 2026 has officially concluded, marking the beginning of the mandatory silence period before polling day. Under election regulations, all political activities and campaign-related events are prohibited after midnight.
The upcoming election will see voters elect representatives for 24 seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. A total of 403 candidates are contesting the polls, making it one of the most competitive elections in the region in recent years.
Polling is scheduled to take place on June 7, with authorities finalizing preparations to ensure a smooth and transparent voting process. Election officials have urged voters to participate actively and exercise their democratic right responsibly.
Strict security measures have been put in place across the region to maintain law and order during the election. Personnel from the local police force and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts will be deployed at polling stations and other sensitive locations.
According to official figures, 958,480 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the election. Their participation will play a crucial role in shaping the future political landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Among the candidates, 396 are men and 8 are women. Several major political parties are competing for seats, while a significant number of independent candidates have also entered the race, adding further intensity to the contest.
The Pakistan Peoples Party is fielding 23 candidates, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz with 22 candidates.
The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party has nominated 15 candidates, while Pakistan Muslim League and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) are contesting with 11 and 9 candidates respectively.
Additionally, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has 7 candidates, while Jamaat-e-Islami and Muttahida Qaumi Movement have fielded 6 candidates each. A total of 266 independent candidates are also participating in the election, highlighting the broad political engagement across the region.
