The Imran Khan £190 million case has once again been delayed as legal counsel for former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi requested the Islamabad High Court to adjourn the scheduled hearing on May 7.
According to the petition, lawyers representing the couple stated that they were not formally authorised to argue the main appeals in the Imran Khan £190 million case, limiting their role only to suspension of sentence applications.
The legal team, including Barrister Salman Safdar and other PTI lawyers, informed the court that they had not received proper power of attorney or instructions from their clients. This, they argued, made it impossible to proceed with the Imran Khan £190 million case appeals.
The counsel also claimed that jail authorities at Adiala Jail had not facilitated meetings with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. They said repeated attempts to obtain instructions for the Imran Khan £190 million case were unsuccessful.
Due to these challenges, the lawyers requested the court to issue directions to jail authorities and formally adjourn the May 7 hearing. The Imran Khan £190 million case remains under active judicial review at the Islamabad High Court.
Previously, the court had rejected pleas to suspend sentences and directed that arguments be heard on the main appeals. The Imran Khan £190 million case has therefore moved into a critical legal stage.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were convicted in January 2025 in the high-profile corruption case, and both have challenged their convictions. The ongoing Imran Khan £190 million case continues to draw national political attention.
