A new polio case has been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the province’s total number of cases this year to four. The latest case involves a 17-month-old girl from Bannu district.
According to the provincial health department, the child was diagnosed with poliovirus in Domel tehsil of Bannu. Health authorities are monitoring the situation following confirmation of the latest case.
The new polio case in KP adds to the cases already reported in the province during the current year. Bannu has now recorded three polio cases, while another case has been reported from North Waziristan.
The health department said the latest patient is a young girl aged 17 months. The case highlights the continued presence of poliovirus in parts of the province despite ongoing efforts to prevent its spread.
Bannu has recorded the highest number of cases within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year, with three infections reported so far. North Waziristan accounts for the remaining case, bringing the provincial total to four.
Polio is a highly infectious disease that can cause permanent paralysis, particularly among children. Health authorities continue to rely on vaccination and monitoring to protect children and limit the transmission of the virus.
