Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has decided to step down from his role as a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee, according to sources close to the former skipper.
Sources familiar with the development said Misbah has made up his mind to leave the selection committee. However, the exact reasons behind his decision and whether he has formally submitted his resignation have not yet been disclosed.
According to the sources, Misbah has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about his notice period. He is expected to continue his responsibilities during the notice period before officially ending his association with the board.
The development comes at a difficult time for Pakistan cricket, as the national Test side has faced back-to-back defeats during the ongoing tour of England. The consecutive losses have triggered major discussions within the Pakistan cricket setup and raised questions about the team’s performance.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has also released seven players from the Pakistan Test squad during the England tour. The players reportedly released include Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, Owais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
In another significant move, the PCB has released head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from the tour setup. The changes indicate that the board is reassessing different aspects of the national team following its disappointing Test results.
Meanwhile, opening batter Imam-ul-Haq has returned to Pakistan after missing the second Test because of an injury. Questions have reportedly been raised regarding the nature of his injury, and he could potentially face an inquiry from the PCB.
