Former Pakistan Test captain and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan is set to return to domestic cricket leadership when he captains Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL). The four-day President’s Trophy fixture is scheduled to begin on October 19 at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.
SNGPL Director of Cricket and head coach Mohammad Hafeez has confirmed that Rizwan’s appointment has been communicated officially. According to Hafeez, he received an email from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director of Domestic Cricket Osama Sheron Niazi regarding the wicketkeeper’s inclusion and leadership role.
Rizwan’s expected appearance comes after a difficult period involving Pakistan cricket’s management. The 34-year-old was among seven players reportedly recalled to Pakistan in August 2026 following the national team’s 194-run defeat against England in the second Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
Following his return, Rizwan was reportedly summoned to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), where an inquiry involving him is said to be ongoing. However, the details and current status of the proceedings have not been independently established in this report.
Rizwan has represented Pakistan in 47 Test matches, 103 One-Day Internationals and 106 Twenty20 Internationals, according to the information provided. His experience across formats makes him a significant figure in domestic cricket, particularly as he prepares to take responsibility for SNGPL in a competitive four-day contest.
Reports also suggest that efforts are underway to improve relations between Rizwan and the PCB. The wicketkeeper is understood to be keen to avoid further confrontation and concentrate on his cricket, having sought permission from the board to participate in domestic competitions.
