Pakistan has urged the United States and Iran to show restraint and “give peace a little more chance” as fresh hostilities between the two countries escalate, according to remarks made at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Addressing the UNSC session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Islamabad remained deeply concerned over renewed conflict and increasing instability in the Middle East, stressing the need for urgent diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
The Pakistan peace call US Iran came after reports of US airstrikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory attacks by Iran on regional bases, marking one of the most serious flare-ups in recent months despite earlier ceasefire efforts.
Ambassador Ahmad said the fragile security situation highlighted the urgent need for diplomacy, warning that continued violence could further destabilize the region and derail ongoing efforts to resolve disputes peacefully.
He reiterated that Pakistan supports resolving all outstanding issues, including the Iran nuclear dispute, through dialogue, diplomacy, and international cooperation, rather than military confrontation.
The envoy also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating communication between the two sides, noting that engagement and dialogue had previously helped reduce tensions and create space for negotiations.
According to the statement, Pakistan has been actively engaging with multiple regional and global partners to promote de-escalation and stability, emphasizing that sustained diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.
Concluding his remarks, the ambassador again urged all sides to avoid further escalation and “give peace a little more chance,” underscoring Pakistan’s consistent stance in favor of peaceful conflict resolution.
