The Karachi heatwave alert has been issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department as temperatures across the city and surrounding regions are expected to rise sharply in the coming days. Officials have warned of extremely hot and dry conditions affecting much of Sindh.
According to the meteorological department, the Karachi heatwave alert indicates that temperatures in the city could exceed 41°C by Monday, while Sunday may see highs near 40°C. Suburban areas are expected to experience similarly intense heat conditions.
Authorities have also warned that the “feels-like” temperature in Karachi could rise dramatically, reaching up to 50°C during peak daytime hours. On Saturday, temperatures may hover around 38°C, but humidity will significantly increase heat intensity.
The Karachi heatwave alert further highlights that humidity levels will remain high over the next three days, ranging from 40% to 70%. This combination of heat and moisture is expected to make outdoor conditions more dangerous.
In addition to Karachi, several districts of Sindh are also expected to be affected. Areas including Jamshoro, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad may experience temperatures 3°C to 5°C above normal levels.
Weather experts have also warned of possible dust storms and strong winds in some regions. These conditions may damage weak structures, crops, and solar installations, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
The Karachi heatwave alert advises residents, especially children, women, and elderly citizens, to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, stay hydrated, and take precautionary safety measures during peak heat hours.
