KARACHI: Environmental samples collected across Sindh in August have been analysed, with polio virus detected in samples from several districts of the province.
According to the Sindh Emergency Operations Centre, environmental samples from five districts tested positive for poliovirus during August. One sample each from District West and Korangi was found to contain the virus.
The report stated that one environmental sample each from Central and South districts also tested positive. Two environmental samples collected from Hyderabad were also found to contain poliovirus.
Meanwhile, environmental samples collected from East, Keamari and Malir districts tested negative for the virus. Samples from Ghotki, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Qambar also showed no presence of poliovirus.
The report further stated that no poliovirus was detected in environmental samples collected from Larkana, Kashmore, Dadu and Badin. Samples from Jamshoro, Sujawal, Mirpurkhas and Sanghar also tested negative.
The Sindh Emergency Operations Centre said special attention would be given to vaccination activities and other preventive measures in districts where positive environmental samples were detected. Authorities are expected to strengthen surveillance and immunisation efforts in the affected areas.
