Saudi Coalition Intercepts Houthi Missile Near Riyadh

The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted a Houthi missile launched toward northern Riyadh on Wednesday. The coalition described the projectile as a ballistic missile and said it was destroyed before reaching its target.

The development adds to tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. The coalition has previously reported intercepting missiles and drones launched from areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen.

Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki announced the latest interception. He said the missile was launched by what he described as the Houthi militia and was detected while heading toward the northern area of Riyadh.

According to the coalition, air defence systems successfully tracked and intercepted the projectile. The statement did not provide further details about the missile’s exact launch location, its intended target or whether it caused any damage.

The Saudi coalition intercepts Houthi missile incident comes amid continued regional security concerns. Missile launches involving the Houthis have remained a major issue for Saudi Arabia because of the potential threat to populated areas and critical infrastructure.

The coalition also did not immediately report casualties or property damage following the interception. Details about the incident could emerge later as authorities assess the situation and monitor developments along the Saudi-Yemeni border.

The latest Houthi missile interception highlights the continuing security challenges linked to the conflict in Yemen. Saudi authorities and coalition forces remain focused on detecting and responding to potential missile and drone threats originating from Houthi-controlled territory.
