RAWALPINDI: Security forces have foiled an attempted infiltration by militants near the Pak-Afghan border, targeting members of Fitna al-Khawarij during an operation, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to the military’s media wing, militants belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij attempted to enter Pakistan through an area close to the Pak-Afghan border. Security forces responded promptly and successfully targeted the infiltrators before they could achieve their objective.
ISPR said the operation against the militants continued for around 36 hours. During the prolonged engagement, security personnel carried out operations in the area and prevented the group from advancing into Pakistani territory.
A significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the militants killed during the operation, according to ISPR. The recovery of the arms and ammunition indicated that the militants were equipped for carrying out violent activities.
The military’s media wing said the militants were attempting to undermine peace and stability in Pakistan. ISPR also alleged that the Afghan Taliban government had failed to prevent terrorist organisations from using Afghan soil, ensure effective border management and fulfill its international obligations.
Security forces remain committed to defending Pakistan’s territorial boundaries, ISPR said. The statement added that clearance operations against what it described as Indian-sponsored Khawarij were continuing in different areas.
ISPR further stated that the counterterrorism campaign would continue until the threat posed by terrorism backed and supported by foreign elements is eliminated. The security forces reiterated their resolve to protect the country’s borders and maintain peace and stability.
