Türkiye military deployment in Saudi Arabia

Türkiye Plans Military Deployment in Saudi Arabia

Türkiye plans to deploy military personnel in Saudi Arabia following the ratification of a joint defence agreement, according to a Reuters report cited by Dunya News. The reported move would expand military cooperation between the two countries.

According to Reuters, a member of Türkiye’s ruling party said the government would submit a parliamentary resolution on the military deployment after the agreement receives ratification. The report did not specify when the resolution would be presented.

Under the reported arrangement, Türkiye would be able to station its military personnel in Saudi Arabia. Their initial responsibilities would focus on air defence and electronic warfare, according to the Reuters report.

The proposed deployment would form part of the broader defence cooperation between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. However, the report does not provide details about the number of personnel, their locations or the expected duration of their deployment.

Reuters also reported that Turkish military personnel stationed abroad under the agreement would not take part in offensive operations. This provision would limit their role in accordance with the terms described in the report.

The reported plan follows discussions around a joint defence agreement between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. The development comes as the two countries consider closer cooperation in military and security matters.

Reuters further reported that Türkiye had agreed to join a Saudi-led coalition to protect ships in the Red Sea. The report did not provide further details about the timing, operational arrangements or the specific role Türkiye would play in the maritime security effort.
