Pakistan and Kuwait are moving to strengthen bilateral energy ties as both countries agreed to explore Kuwait Strategic Storage Projects in Pakistan. The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi, held in Islamabad on Tuesday.
During the meeting, both sides discussed regional developments, energy cooperation, and opportunities for expanding collaboration in the petroleum sector. Officials emphasized the importance of closer bilateral relations and agreed to continue cooperation in areas that could deliver mutual economic and strategic benefits.
The discussion gained significance following recent disruptions in regional energy supply routes caused by tensions in the Middle East. Pakistan appreciated Kuwait’s timely support in facilitating fuel shipments during the challenging period created by the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the official statement, the vessel “Khairpur” safely reached Pakistan carrying approximately 45,000 tons of diesel and 10,000 tons of jet fuel from Kuwait. The shipment was made possible through special approvals and coordination between both countries to maintain uninterrupted fuel supplies for Pakistan’s domestic needs.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said Pakistan remains committed to regional peace and stability despite ongoing geopolitical tensions. He stated that the conflict’s economic effects were being felt across multiple countries, particularly in energy and trade sectors. He also acknowledged the role of Pakistan’s leadership in ensuring the safe arrival of the fuel shipment.
The Kuwaiti ambassador praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and constructive role in promoting peace in the region. He noted that Pakistan’s responsible approach during the crisis had improved its standing in the international community. Kuwait also encouraged Pakistan to continue supporting regional stability and dialogue.
Both countries further discussed future cooperation in refining and petroleum infrastructure development. Experts believe that Kuwait Strategic Storage Projects in Pakistan could help improve Pakistan’s energy security, strengthen fuel reserves, and support long-term economic stability. The initiative may also open new opportunities for investment and deeper economic partnership between Islamabad and Kuwait City.
