Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Arrives in Switzerland for High-Level Iran-US Technical Talks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, along with a high-level Pakistani delegation to participate in technical-level negotiations related to the implementation of the Iran-US understanding. The visit follows recent diplomatic developments aimed at advancing dialogue and reducing tensions between the two countries.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the talks are being held as a continuation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The discussions are expected to focus on implementation mechanisms, confidence-building measures, and the next phase of diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, are participating in the negotiations. Their presence highlights Pakistan’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts and facilitating constructive engagement between the parties involved.

Officials said the technical discussions will take place in Bürgenstock, a Swiss resort that has emerged as a venue for sensitive international negotiations. Switzerland has confirmed that it continues to support and host discussions related to the Iran-US diplomatic process.

A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office stated that the prime minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with representatives of participating delegations. These meetings are aimed at strengthening cooperation and ensuring effective implementation of the understandings reached between Iran and the United States.

The spokesperson added that Pakistan will continue to support diplomatic initiatives designed to promote regional peace, stability, and dialogue. Islamabad views constructive engagement as an essential step toward reducing tensions and encouraging long-term cooperation across the region.

Meanwhile, international delegations have also arrived in Switzerland ahead of the negotiations. Reports indicate that US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are already in the country, while US Vice President JD Vance has also arrived for the talks. The Iranian delegation, led by Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials involved in foreign policy, security, and economic affairs.
