Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called for Parliament to play a more effective role and urged opposition parties to return to parliamentary standing committees. He said active committees were essential for strengthening the legislative process and advancing reforms.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, the Pakistan Peoples Party chairman said his party had always respected Parliament. He said parliamentary standing committees must be made functional if Parliament was to perform its responsibilities effectively.
Bilawal Bhutto parliamentary committees remarks included an appeal to opposition parties to reconsider their decision and return to the committees. He said their participation could help move the reform process forward and allow lawmakers to address important national issues through Parliament.
He said the PPP had consistently played an important role in electoral reforms. According to Bilawal, concerns about the electoral process were being raised by opposition parties, government allies and ministers, creating a need for all political sides to work together.
Bilawal said it was the responsibility of all stakeholders to help address concerns surrounding the electoral process. He argued that returning to parliamentary committees could provide a platform for political parties to discuss objections and contribute to reforms.
On the creation of new provinces, Bilawal said the PPP’s position remained clear and that the party would stand with public opinion. He said the party would not support imposing any decision on the people through force or without consensus.
Regarding South Punjab, Bilawal said there was already agreement on the issue. However, he said the PPP had a clear position on proposals for new provinces in Sindh, arguing that new provinces should not be created where political and public consensus does not exist.
