Pakistan, Iran FMs reaffirm commitment to regional peace during a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two ministers reviewed the evolving regional situation and reaffirmed the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Iran. They agreed that continued cooperation and regular dialogue remain essential for addressing shared regional challenges and strengthening mutual trust.
Ishaq Dar expressed deep concern over recent regional tensions and emphasized the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation, and sustained diplomatic engagement. He said peaceful negotiations remain the most effective path to achieving lasting peace and stability across the region.
Pakistan, Iran FMs reaffirm commitment to regional peace by agreeing to build on the understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2026. Dar stressed that both countries should continue working together to support diplomatic initiatives and regional cooperation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support and praised its constructive role in promoting regional peace and security. He acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts in encouraging dialogue during a period of heightened regional uncertainty.
Araghchi also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the safe return of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those from vessels interdicted by the United States. He appreciated Pakistan’s coordination with Iranian, American and other relevant authorities to ensure their safe transit through Pakistan and return to Iran.
