Pakistan Approves 1 Million Tons Wheat Import

Pakistan approves 1 million tons of wheat import as the federal government moves to address rising provincial demand and ensure adequate food supplies across the country. The Ministry of National Food Security said the decision was taken to maintain market stability and meet domestic consumption requirements.

According to the ministry, the combined wheat requirements of the provinces are higher than the available stocks held by the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO). As a result, the government has decided to immediately import one million tons of wheat to bridge the supply gap.

The ministry said the wheat currently available in PASSCO warehouses will be distributed among the provinces according to their respective needs. The allocation aims to ensure uninterrupted supplies while additional imported stocks are arranged.

Pakistan approves 1 million tons of wheat import to prevent supply shortages and maintain stability in the domestic wheat market. Officials said timely imports would help balance demand and supply while reducing the risk of price volatility in different regions.

The ministry added that the federal government remains committed to ensuring the availability of affordable and quality wheat for consumers. Authorities believe the decision will strengthen food security and support uninterrupted flour production nationwide.

Officials also confirmed that detailed consultations were held with provincial governments regarding wheat prices, available stocks, and the overall supply situation. The discussions helped assess regional requirements before the import decision was finalized.

Pakistan approves 1 million tons of wheat import as part of broader efforts to safeguard national food security and stabilize the market. The government said it will continue monitoring wheat supplies and work closely with provinces to ensure sufficient availability in the coming months.
