A nine-member mountaineering team has successfully reached the summit of Thalo Zom Peak, a 6,050-metre-high mountain located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The achievement marks another milestone for adventure tourism and mountaineering activities in the region.
According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority, Thalo Zom is among the most challenging and less frequently climbed peaks of the Hindu Kush mountain range. The expedition tested the skills, endurance, and determination of the climbers due to the difficult terrain and extreme conditions.
The eight-day expedition began on 9 July, with the mountaineers successfully reaching the summit on 17 July. After completing the demanding climb, the team hoisted the national flag at the peak, highlighting the achievement at one of the region’s toughest mountain destinations.
During the expedition, the climbers crossed challenging routes through Kumrat and Chitral, navigating glaciers, snow-covered landscapes, and dangerous ice crevasses. The difficult journey required careful planning and advanced mountaineering expertise.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority stated that Thalo Zom was first successfully climbed in 1971 by Australian mountaineers, while an Italian climbing team reached the summit in 2019. The peak remains one of the lesser-explored destinations due to its demanding climbing conditions.
Officials said such expeditions play an important role in promoting adventure tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and showcasing the province’s diverse mountainous landscapes to international climbers and tourists.
