Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader and former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has expressed concern over alleged electoral irregularities in the LA-12 Chadhroi constituency of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), calling on the Election Commission to conduct an immediate investigation.
In a statement, Raja Pervez Ashraf alleged that PPP polling agents were forcibly removed from several polling stations during the voting process. He also claimed that there were reports of armed individuals attempting to influence the election and allegations of fraudulent voting at certain locations.
The former prime minister urged the Election Commission of AJK to withhold the results from the disputed polling stations until a thorough and impartial inquiry into the complaints has been completed. He said the reported incidents should be investigated to ensure transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.
Ashraf further called for re-polling at the affected polling stations under military supervision, following the completion of the investigation. He argued that such a step would help ensure that voters are able to exercise their democratic rights in a free and fair environment.
Emphasising the importance of credible elections, he said that free, fair, and transparent polls are a fundamental democratic right of every voter and candidate. He added that any attempt to undermine the public mandate should not be accepted.
The PPP leader also appealed to the Chief Election Commissioner of AJK to ensure a level playing field for all candidates. He requested that the constituency’s final result should not be announced until all complaints have been addressed and any required re-polling has been completed.
The Election Commission of AJK has not yet issued an official response to the allegations. The claims reflect Raja Pervez Ashraf’s position and remain subject to verification through the election authorities’ review process.
