PSX Gains 1,855 Points on Lower Oil Prices

The PSX today witnessed a strong rally as the benchmark KSE-100 Index gained 1,855 points during Monday’s trading session. Investor sentiment improved after a sharp decline in global oil prices and renewed hopes of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, triggering widespread buying across major sectors of the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

The trading week began with exceptional momentum as the KSE-100 Index climbed nearly 2,750 points shortly after the opening bell. By 9:34am, the benchmark had reached 178,836.99 points, up 2,742.88 points from the previous close. Although some early gains were trimmed later in the session, the market remained firmly in positive territory throughout the day.

By 1:35pm, the KSE-100 Index was trading at 177,948.83 points, reflecting an increase of 1,854.72 points or 1.05 percent. During intraday trading, the benchmark touched a high of 178,985.94 points before easing slightly. Market participation also remained healthy, with more than 177 million shares traded, generating a turnover exceeding Rs13.7 billion.

Analysts attributed the positive performance largely to a sharp fall in international crude oil prices. Global oil prices dropped by more than four dollars per barrel after U.S. President Donald Trump signaled a preference for renewed diplomatic talks with Iran instead of immediate military escalation, easing concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

Lower oil prices are generally viewed as beneficial for Pakistan’s economy because they reduce import costs, improve the external account, and help ease inflationary pressures. These expectations encouraged investors to increase exposure to equities, particularly in sectors expected to benefit from lower energy costs and improved macroeconomic conditions.

The strongest buying activity was recorded in commercial banks, cement companies, oil marketing firms, oil and gas exploration companies, and power generation stocks. The broad-based rally indicated improving market confidence as investors responded positively to developments in international markets and expectations of greater regional stability.

The PSX today demonstrated resilience despite ongoing global uncertainties, with investors focusing on favorable external factors and improving economic sentiment. Market participants will continue monitoring international oil prices, geopolitical developments, and domestic economic indicators for further direction in the coming trading sessions.
