Heavy Monsoon Rains Lash Punjab, Rawalpindi Records 130mm Rainfall

Lahore and several other districts across Punjab have received heavy monsoon rainfall, bringing widespread showers across the province. The intense weather has raised concerns about water accumulation in low-lying areas, while authorities have directed relevant departments to remain on high alert.

According to a report from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Rawalpindi recorded the highest rainfall during the past 24 hours, receiving 130 millimeters of rain. Attock received 79mm, while 65mm was recorded at Lahore Airport and 50mm in Wazirabad.

The PDMA data showed that Gujranwala and Jhelum received 39mm of rainfall each, while Narowal recorded 33mm and Mandi Bahauddin received 30mm. Gujrat recorded 19mm, Sialkot 11mm and Murree 7mm of rainfall during the same period.

Heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad caused water levels in Nullah Lai to rise, prompting authorities to sound danger sirens. Officials are monitoring the situation closely, particularly in areas vulnerable to urban flooding and rising water levels.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, the sixth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 21. More rainfall is expected in different parts of Punjab during this period, increasing the risk of water accumulation and localized flooding.
