Iran Weighs Strikes on US Military Targets in Europe

Iran has reportedly considered striking US military assets in Europe if the conflict with Washington escalates, according to a Financial Times report. The report says Iranian forces have assessed possible options for expanding the confrontation beyond the Middle East.

The Financial Times, citing two people close to the Iranian government, reported that Iranian forces had examined potential US military targets in southeastern Europe. Bulgaria was reportedly among the countries considered after approving the use of its Bezmer air base by US refuelling aircraft.

Cyprus was also reportedly included among potential targets. According to the report, Iranian officials have considered possible responses if the United States launches another offensive against Iranian infrastructure. The development could significantly widen the geographical scope of the conflict.

Iran strikes US military targets in Europe is one of the scenarios reportedly being examined by Tehran as it considers how to respond to any escalation. Iranian officials have previously warned that military bases used to launch attacks against Iran could themselves become targets.

The report also said Iranian forces have examined the possibility of targeting subsea fibre-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz if tensions increase further. Any disruption to critical infrastructure in the strategic waterway could create wider regional and international consequences.

The developments come as efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz remain stalled and prospects for renewed negotiations between Tehran and Washington have weakened. US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that there were currently no talks or discussions scheduled with Iran.

Military experts cited in the report said Iran possesses missiles capable of reaching parts of southern and southeastern Europe, although their effectiveness and accuracy could be reduced over longer distances. The latest claims highlight the potential risks of further escalation and the possibility of the conflict spreading beyond the Middle East.
