Heavy rainfall causes deaths, injuries in KP

Heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district have claimed eight lives and injured 42 others after buildings collapsed due to the downpour. The fatalities include seven children and one woman, while several injured remain in critical condition. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities respond to the widespread damage.

On Sunday, two buildings collapsed amid continuous rainfall, resulting in six deaths and 30 injuries. District authorities confirmed that three bodies and more than 25 injured individuals were taken to District Headquarters Hospital and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital for treatment. Officials are ensuring victims receive urgent medical care.

Bannu’s Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Faheem visited the hospitals to check on the injured and review medical arrangements. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), heavy rains have caused 17 deaths and 56 injuries across KP so far.

In a separate incident near Havelian in Abbottabad, a roof collapse killed five members of the same family early Monday morning in Hajia Gali village. Four girls and one adult died instantly, while two others were seriously injured and shifted to Abbottabad Hospital. Local police and residents immediately conducted rescue operations.

Authorities have directed district administrations and rescue teams, including Rescue 1122, to remain on high alert. The PDMA had forecasted heavy rain with strong winds and thunderstorms across most KP districts from March 25 to 30, urging preventive measures to limit casualties.
