Authorities in Islamabad have launched the Mehfooz Muharram App, a first-of-its-kind digital platform designed to enhance security arrangements during Muharram-ul-Haram. The initiative is part of a broader security strategy that includes geo-tagging of religious sites, procession routes, and advanced digital surveillance measures.
The Mehfooz Muharram App was reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Officials briefed the meeting on security and administrative preparations aimed at ensuring peaceful observances throughout the holy month.
According to authorities, the application allows citizens to report suspicious individuals, unusual activities, and security-related concerns directly to law enforcement agencies. The platform is intended to improve communication between the public and security institutions during Muharram.
One of the key features of the Mehfooz Muharram App is live location sharing, which enables authorities to respond more effectively to emergencies. Users can also upload and share images, helping security teams assess situations quickly and take timely action when needed.
Officials informed the meeting that a central control room has been established at Safe City Islamabad. The facility will monitor security operations around the clock and coordinate responses through digital surveillance systems, including drone-assisted monitoring in sensitive areas.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed authorities to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan and maintain a four-layer security system around all religious gatherings and processions. He also instructed law enforcement agencies to conduct strict security checks at entry and exit points.
Authorities said security audits of all majalis and processions have been completed, while Peace and Nigehban Committees have been activated to support security efforts. Officials expressed confidence that the Mehfooz Muharram App, combined with coordinated planning and technological monitoring, will help ensure a safe and peaceful Muharram in the federal capital.
