US-Iran Nuclear Deal

IAEA Ready to Define Steps for Implementing US-Iran Nuclear Deal

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced its readiness to begin work on implementing the US-Iran Nuclear Deal, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran aimed at ending regional hostilities and restarting diplomatic engagement.

Speaking in Geneva, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the agency would soon begin discussions with both the United States and Iran to establish the practical measures required under the agreement. He emphasized that technical planning and cooperation would be essential for successful implementation.

A key component of the US-Iran Nuclear Deal involves Iran reducing the concentration of its enriched uranium stockpile under IAEA supervision. According to the agreement, the process may include on-site dilution of uranium, requiring detailed monitoring and verification by international inspectors.

Grossi described the task as highly complex and noted that progress would depend largely on the political commitment of both countries. He said the IAEA’s role would be to provide impartial technical guidance and ensure compliance with agreed procedures.

According to IAEA estimates, Iran possessed approximately 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent before cooperation with the agency was suspended. International inspectors have not had full access to the material since tensions escalated and monitoring activities were restricted.

The US-Iran Nuclear Deal is considered a temporary framework designed to create space for broader negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme. Future talks are expected to address long-term monitoring arrangements, transparency measures, and concerns related to nuclear development.

The IAEA chief welcomed the agreement and said its recognition of the agency’s role reflects international confidence in its expertise. He added that while the memorandum marks an important diplomatic achievement, the real challenge now lies in translating commitments into concrete actions under the US-Iran Nuclear Deal.
