Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated its Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, for membership of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, according to sources familiar with the development. The nomination is expected to be formally notified soon as the process of reconstituting the commission moves forward.
Sources said the official notification regarding Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s nomination to the Judicial Commission is likely to be issued shortly.
His nomination comes at a time when changes are being made to the parliamentary representation in the commission following the completion of the existing members’ two-year term.
Earlier, PPP Senator Farooq H. Naek and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sheikh Aftab Ahmad had resigned from their positions as members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan. Their resignations have paved the way for fresh nominations from both houses of Parliament.
According to sources, the two-year term of the members nominated from the Senate and National Assembly has now been completed. Consequently, new parliamentary members are expected to be nominated soon to continue the commission’s constitutional and administrative functions.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan plays an important role in the country’s judicial appointment process. Its membership includes representatives from different constitutional and parliamentary institutions, making its composition significant for the broader judicial framework.
Sources described the latest changes as part of the routine process of appointing members after the completion of their prescribed tenure. The development, therefore, is being viewed as an institutional transition rather than an extraordinary change within the commission.
