Iran Calls Islamabad Understanding a ‘Declaration of US Defeat’

Iran has described the recent Islamabad Understanding between Tehran and Washington as a significant diplomatic achievement, with senior Iranian officials claiming it reflects the country’s resilience and negotiating strength. The remarks came as regional leaders continue discussing the future of peace and stability in the Middle East.

Speaking at a conference in Azerbaijan, Iranian Parliament Speaker and head of the negotiating team, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said the agreement was not the result of pressure or coercion. Instead, he argued that it emerged from what he called the determination and authority of the Iranian nation.

According to Ghalibaf, the Islamabad Understanding represents a major turning point in regional diplomacy. He stated that Iran entered negotiations from a position of confidence and was able to secure an outcome that aligned with its national interests and strategic objectives.

The senior Iranian official went on to describe the agreement as a “declaration of America’s defeat,” suggesting that Washington ultimately accepted a diplomatic path after a period of heightened tensions. His comments reflect Tehran’s interpretation of the negotiations and their outcome.

Ghalibaf also emphasized that long-term security in the Middle East should be maintained by countries within the region rather than external powers. He argued that regional cooperation and dialogue remain the most effective tools for preventing future conflicts and ensuring stability.

The Islamabad Understanding has attracted significant international attention because it established a framework for continued negotiations between Iran and the United States. The agreement also opened the door for further discussions on security, economic cooperation, and regional de-escalation.

While officials from different countries continue to interpret the agreement in different ways, analysts believe the deal marks an important diplomatic development. The success of the Islamabad Understanding will ultimately depend on the implementation of its provisions and the willingness of all parties to maintain constructive engagement.
