Iran warns Bahrain

Iran Warns Bahrain Over Use of Its Territory in Attacks

Tehran has issued a warning to Bahrain and other regional states against allowing their territory or airspace to be used for attacks on Iran. The warning, reported by IRNA, said Iran could respond if such use happens again. The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions.

Ali Karimi Magham, Second Secretary of Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, made the remarks Monday during a session of the UN Third Committee. He was responding to comments by Bahrain’s representative about the regional situation and human rights concerns.

The Iranian diplomat said Bahrain had presented itself as a victim while, in Iran’s view, overlooking the circumstances behind recent developments. His comments came as tensions remain high over military activity involving Iran and other countries in the region.

Karimi Magham alleged that Bahrain had allowed its territory, military bases and airspace to be used in what Iran described as an unlawful US military operation against its neighboring country. Iran has repeatedly criticized regional support for foreign military operations.

The official argued that a country allowing its territory to be used for military action against a neighboring state should not be surprised by the consequences. His remarks formed a central part of the warning issued by Iran during the UN session.

Iran warns Bahrain and other regional states against permitting their territory or airspace to be used for attacks. Karimi Magham said Tehran would consider a response if such arrangements were allowed again, according to the Iranian state news agency.

The warning highlights continuing disputes between Iran and several regional countries over military access, airspace and foreign operations. It also underlines the wider security concerns facing Gulf states as tensions involving Iran and the United States continue to affect the region.
