The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to seek a KP World Bank loan to rehabilitate areas affected by last year’s floods and strengthen infrastructure against future disasters.
According to government sources, the proposed financing will primarily be used to restore infrastructure damaged by flooding, with particular attention to irrigation systems in affected districts.
The loan will also support projects aimed at strengthening flood protection infrastructure across the province. Authorities plan to improve facilities and systems that can help reduce the impact of future floods on communities and public infrastructure.
Under the proposed programme, part of the financial assistance will be used to strengthen the capacity of provincial and district institutions. The focus will include disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and a faster response during natural disasters.
The KP World Bank loan is expected to support rehabilitation work as well as measures designed to reduce losses caused by natural disasters. The initiative could provide additional resources for rebuilding damaged public infrastructure.
Government sources said formal approval to apply for the World Bank financing will be sought from the provincial cabinet at its upcoming meeting. The approval would allow the provincial government to proceed with the loan application process.
The proposed financing reflects the provincial government’s focus on recovering from previous flood damage while improving preparedness for future emergencies. Restoration of irrigation infrastructure and stronger flood protection systems are expected to remain key areas under the planned programme.
