Makkah Defence Pact Seen as Strategic Gain for Pakistan

The Makkah Defence Pact has been described as a source of strategic reach, diplomatic influence and regional balance for Pakistan by a US-based journal.

An article published by Foreign Policy in Focus said the agreement reflects the growing role of regional powers in a rapidly changing Middle East. It also highlighted the strategic importance of cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The report said support from US President Donald Trump for the agreement reflects Pakistan’s continued diplomatic weight in Washington. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have expressed a commitment to playing a constructive role in regional security and lasting peace.

The Makkah Defence Pact has also gained importance amid growing strategic cooperation between India and Israel. According to the article, developments in the India-Israel relationship further underline the agreement’s significance for Pakistan’s regional security calculations.

The publication argued that describing the pact as an alliance aimed against Iran would be inaccurate. Instead, its importance lies in broader regional cooperation and the ability of participating countries to coordinate on security and strategic matters.

The agreement also leaves the door open for other regional countries to join. According to the report, this flexible and inclusive structure could become one of the pact’s main strengths rather than creating a rigid military bloc.

The Makkah Defence Pact therefore represents more than a bilateral security arrangement, according to the analysis. For Pakistan, it could provide greater strategic space, strengthen diplomatic influence and contribute to a changing regional balance while allowing wider regional participation.
