Kushner to Meet Netanyahu After Rare Hamas Talks

US President Donald Trump’s envoy Jared Kushner is due to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. The Kushner Netanyahu talks follow rare discussions between Kushner and Hamas representatives in Cairo.

A diplomatic source said Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya attended some meetings between mediators and Kushner. Trump’s Gaza envoy Nickolay Mladenov also participated in the discussions. The meetings focused on efforts to advance the US president’s Gaza peace plan.

The Cairo meeting marked Kushner’s second known meeting with Hamas representatives. He previously met Hamas officials alongside US envoy Steve Witkoff in October 2025. Those talks helped secure a deal that led to a Gaza ceasefire and the release of remaining hostages.

Trump said in late July that an agreement had been reached for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. His proposal envisages a phased process, including an Israeli withdrawal as disarmament progresses.

The plan also proposes an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force to secure Gaza. Netanyahu, who is seeking re-election in October, has publicly rejected Trump’s plan. The Kushner Netanyahu talks could address differences over its implementation.

Hamas has said it agreed to the proposed plan but stressed that implementation depends on Israeli commitments. The group has called for an Israeli withdrawal and an end to attacks before the agreement moves forward.

The latest diplomatic efforts reflect renewed attempts to reach a political settlement in Gaza. Kushner’s meeting with Netanyahu follows his unusual engagement with Hamas officials in Cairo. The Kushner Netanyahu talks could shape the next stage of negotiations.
