US President Donald Trump has once again made a bold claim about his place in American history, ranking himself as the greatest president in US history. Trump shared a ranking of former US presidents on his social media platform, Truth Social, placing himself at the very top of the list.
In the ranking, Trump placed several well-known American leaders in the category of “great” presidents. Former presidents Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were included among the leaders he considered great.
Trump placed Theodore Roosevelt, Grover Cleveland, John Adams and James K. Polk in a category described as being close to the greatest presidents. His own position, however, stood above all the other presidents on the list, reflecting his strong personal assessment of his presidency and political legacy.
The former presidents were also divided into several other categories. Trump placed former President Bill Clinton and 11 other presidents in the “average” category. He also ranked six presidents below average, indicating that he viewed their overall presidential records less favorably.
Trump’s ranking became particularly notable when he placed Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Ulysses S. Grant and Warren G. Harding in the “failed” category. The list therefore offered a highly personal assessment of more than a century of American presidential history.
Trump has frequently spoken about his administration and political record in highly favorable terms. His latest ranking reflects the continuing confidence with which he presents his role in US politics and his view of his long-term legacy.
While presidential rankings can vary significantly among historians, academics and the public, Trump’s list is clearly his own assessment rather than an official historical ranking.
