The Punjab government has officially announced the dates for Lahore Basant 2027, scheduling the three-day festival for March 12, 13 and 14. The decision came during a meeting chaired by Home Secretary Ahmed Javed to discuss arrangements for celebrating Basant safely across the provincial capital.
The government plans to enforce safety measures to reduce risks associated with kite flying during the festival. Officials said authorities would not permit kite flying from rooftops considered unsafe. The measures aim to ensure that residents can participate in the celebrations while following the prescribed safety requirements.
Under the announced arrangements, rooftop owners must construct safety walls at least three and a half feet high before December 31, 2026. Authorities have also directed property owners to arrange necessary repairs at approved locations before the festival begins.
Home Secretary Ahmed Javed said deputy commissioners must arrange comprehensive inspections of rooftops on old buildings and houses. If an inspection report identifies a structure as unsafe, the relevant deputy commissioner must prohibit kite flying from that building.
The government has also placed responsibility for rooftop safety on property owners. Owners must ensure that roofs used for kite flying can safely withstand the activity. The requirement is intended to prevent accidents involving weak or poorly maintained structures during the three-day celebration.
Officials also addressed electrical safety as part of the arrangements for Lahore Basant 2027. Building owners must take steps to make nearby electricity wires safe when they are close to rooftops used for kite flying. Deputy commissioners will monitor the production, transportation and sale of kites and strings to ensure compliance with prescribed limits.
The announcement establishes March 12–14, 2027, as the scheduled dates for Lahore’s three-day Basant festival. Preparations will focus on rooftop inspections, protective walls, building stability and electrical safety. Authorities will also oversee kite and string supplies under the announced rules. Residents and property owners will need to follow the safety requirements as the festival approaches.
