The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of former military personnel for Punjab school monitoring, with the process already underway. The move aims to strengthen oversight of educational institutions across the province.
Under the plan, military personnel will be appointed as Monitoring and Evaluation Officers in 22 districts. The positions will be offered on one-year contracts, with a monthly salary of Rs60,000 along with other benefits under Education Department rules.
The selected officers will also receive government motorcycles for field monitoring duties. Their contracts may be extended after one year, while the recruitment will be carried out under the Punjab Education Foundation.
Applications have been invited from retired GCOs and NCOs until September 7. Candidates must be between 30 and 55 years old, hold at least a bachelor’s degree and have a Punjab domicile.
Applicants must also have IT-related experience and meet the required health standards. In the first phase, 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will be recruited, including 21 former military personnel and seven civilians.
The Punjab school monitoring plan will initially cover selected districts, with separate recruitment planned for other areas in the second phase. The initiative is expected to increase field-level monitoring and assessment of educational institutions.
Meanwhile, the Education Department has proposed extending the contracts of around 150,000 school teaching interns working on temporary daily-wage arrangements. A summary seeking Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s approval has been submitted, with the proposed extension running until March 2027.
