Lahore is set to host 10-day Basant celebrations in Lahore next year after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the plan. The festivities will mark the arrival of 2027 and are scheduled to take place from January 29 to February 7.
According to the approved plan, celebrations will be held across the city during the designated period. However, February 5 will remain a break from Basant festivities to observe Kashmir Day, meaning celebrations will pause for one day.
Maryam Nawaz said the extended celebrations would highlight Punjab’s cultural traditions and Lahore’s historic identity. She said a 10-day Basant festival could help promote the city’s longstanding cultural heritage both nationally and internationally.
The chief minister also directed officials to make stronger arrangements for public safety and convenience than those made during the previous Basant celebrations. Authorities will be expected to take measures aimed at protecting citizens during the festivities.
Maryam Nawaz appealed to residents to act responsibly and cooperate with safety measures. She said protecting human lives should remain a priority and called for citizens to demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility during the celebrations.
The decision comes after Basant returned to Lahore earlier this year following a 25-year break. The festival was held from February 6 to 8, marking its first return to the city after a long suspension.
The latest approval means 10-day Basant celebrations in Lahore will become part of the provincial government’s plan for the start of 2027. The government is expected to announce further details about safety arrangements, regulations and activities before the festivities begin.
