Pakistan’s Mediation Role in US-Iran Tensions Praised by Turkish Media

Islamabad: Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran is continuing to receive international recognition, with Turkish state media highlighting Islamabad’s effectiveness as a trusted mediator.

According to a report by TRT World, Pakistan emerged as a credible intermediary between Washington and Tehran during the recent period of heightened regional tensions.

The report stated that unlike several regional powers, Pakistan adopted a “quiet, organized and effective” diplomatic approach focused on backchannel communication rather than public messaging.

TRT noted that Asim Munir relied on discreet diplomacy and confidential engagement to maintain communication channels between the United States and Iran, even during difficult circumstances.

According to the Turkish media outlet, Pakistan’s geographic location, military and intelligence credibility, and longstanding ties with both Washington and Tehran have given the country a unique diplomatic position in the region.

The report further stated that Pakistan’s military leadership has increasingly emerged as a guarantor of regional connectivity, economic corridors, and diplomatic stability.

Pakistan also continues to maintain active relations with the United States, China, Gulf states, Iran, and Türkiye, strengthening its regional influence.

TRT added that Pakistan’s defense cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia has further reinforced Islamabad’s standing in the region.

The report also highlighted Asim Munir’s firm stance against terrorism along Pakistan’s western borders, describing it as an important factor in regional security calculations.

According to TRT, Pakistan has become an acceptable and balanced mediator during the Middle East crisis, though it emphasized that Islamabad must address domestic economic challenges to sustain its growing diplomatic influence.

Earlier, officials and observers from the United States, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Qatar also acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive mediation efforts during the ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
