Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has achieved significant progress in developing Pakistan indigenous defence capabilities, highlighting advancements in autonomous systems and locally produced defence technologies. He made the remarks while addressing the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Expo 2026 in Islamabad.
The two-day exhibition, being held at the Pak-China Friendship Centre, showcases the country’s latest developments in robotics, autonomous systems and defence innovation. The prime minister said the event reflected Pakistan’s growing technological expertise and commitment to strengthening its indigenous capabilities.
Addressing participants, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan had made “remarkable progress” in developing autonomous capabilities in the fields of defence and security. He credited the achievements to the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the dedication of the country’s armed forces.
The prime minister said the armed forces had embraced cutting-edge technologies to improve operational readiness. He noted that several advanced systems displayed at the exhibition demonstrated Pakistan’s increasing ability to develop modern defence equipment domestically.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted locally manufactured simulators, saying they were entirely designed, assembled and produced in Pakistan. He added that drones had reached around 60 percent indigenisation, while several other advanced machines had also been developed through local expertise.
The premier recalled that Pakistan’s armed forces had effectively protected both physical and cyber frontiers by employing advanced autonomous systems. He said these capabilities were developed through coordinated efforts involving the military leadership and the country’s defence institutions.
The government remains committed to promoting technological innovation and strengthening Pakistan indigenous defence capabilities through research, local manufacturing and strategic investment. Officials say continued development in robotics and autonomous systems will contribute to national security and long-term technological growth.
