The SCO meeting Islamabad began on Monday as the Council of National Coordinators opened discussions under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for 2026–27. The meeting is being held in the Pakistani capital and will continue until September 30.
The meeting is the first session of the Council of National Coordinators under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State. Pakistan’s National Coordinator for the SCO, Dr. M. Faisal, is chairing the meeting, which brings together national coordinators from member states and representatives of the SCO Secretariat.
An Indian delegation is also attending the meeting in Islamabad. According to the provided information, the delegation is led by an additional secretary from India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The visit marks the participation of an Indian delegation in Pakistan after almost two years.
The national coordinators are discussing several matters related to cooperation and coordination within the SCO. Their agenda includes activities planned under Pakistan’s chairmanship, preparations for upcoming SCO meetings and events, and other organizational matters.
Pakistan is holding the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026–27 under the theme, “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.” The chairmanship aims to focus on connectivity, innovation, economic cooperation and stronger people-to-people contacts.
The SCO meeting Islamabad is also expected to support preparations for several high-level engagements during Pakistan’s chairmanship. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said it will work with member states and the SCO Secretariat to advance the organization’s priorities and strengthen cooperation.
The current meeting will contribute to preparations for future SCO activities, including the Council of Heads of State meeting that Pakistan is scheduled to host in August 2027. Discussions in Islamabad will help coordinate the program and priorities for the upcoming chairmanship period.
