US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a US diplomatic settlement with Iran remains possible if Tehran ends its support for terrorism and permanently abandons its pursuit of nuclear weapons. He made the remarks while speaking to reporters during a visit to Manila.
Rubio said Washington would welcome a negotiated agreement if both sides could reach common ground. However, he stressed that any future deal must include firm commitments from Iran on issues that the United States considers essential for regional and international security.
“We’d love to reach an agreement if it were possible with Iran,” Rubio said. He added that Tehran would need to stop sponsoring terrorism and avoid seeking nuclear weapons or the capabilities required to develop them in the future.
