A serious border security incident has raised tensions in Europe after two drones reportedly entered Latvia from Russia and crashed, according to the Latvian army. The event has intensified concerns over airspace security within NATO territory.
Authorities confirmed that the Russia Latvia Drone Incident occurred early Thursday morning when unidentified drones crossed into Latvian airspace. One of the drones crashed near an oil storage facility in the city of Rezekne, located close to the Russian border.
Local media reported that a small fire broke out at the crash site but was quickly brought under control before emergency services arrived. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the drones were military or reconnaissance in nature.
