PIMS Incident: Wait for Inquiry Report Instead of Speculation, Says Azam Nazeer Tarar

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has expressed sorrow over the PIMS incident and urged people to avoid speculation until the findings of the independent inquiry committee are made public. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has already formed a committee to investigate the incident and determine responsibility.

Speaking to the media after the launch ceremony of the FOSPAH mobile application, Azam Nazeer Tarar said the independent inquiry committee is conducting a detailed investigation into the PIMS accident. He added that an interim report is expected soon, which would help clarify several important aspects of the incident.

The law minister explained that determining responsibility is one of the key objectives outlined in the committee’s terms of reference. The committee is reviewing available evidence, including video footage, to establish what happened and whether there was sufficient response time to take measures that could have protected patients who depended on oxygen support.

According to Tarar, these are technical questions that should be addressed by the inquiry committee rather than through public speculation. He stressed that no one should reach a premature conclusion before investigators complete their assessment of the available evidence.

The federal minister said that the loss of human lives cannot be compensated for, but determining responsibility remains essential. He said investigators must establish whether lives could have been saved despite the accident and, if so, identify where any possible negligence or failure occurred.

Tarar also noted that Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal had offered himself for accountability. He said the inquiry would help establish the facts and determine responsibility based on evidence rather than assumptions.

Responding to a question about the election of the prime minister of Azad Kashmir, Tarar said the government’s political team would be in a better position to comment on the matter.
