Sindh Announces Rs40,000 Monthly Aid for Mothers of HIV-Affected Children

KARACHI: The Sindh Labour Department has initiated a programme to provide monthly financial assistance of Rs40,000 to mothers of 157 children affected by HIV, according to officials. The initiative aims to help families manage the children’s nutritional requirements and other essential expenses.

Officials said the monthly assistance is intended to provide financial relief to mothers caring for children affected by HIV. The support is expected to help families meet essential needs while managing the additional expenses associated with their children’s care.

As part of the programme, bank accounts have been opened for the mothers of 115 affected children, and ATM cards have been issued to them. This step is intended to facilitate access to the financial assistance being provided under the initiative.

According to officials, 130 HIV-affected children are registered at Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital, while another 27 children are registered at Landhi Hospital. Together, the two facilities account for the 157 children covered in the reported figures.

The financial assistance is expected to help mothers cover food and other necessary expenses for their children. However, officials have not clarified how long the monthly payments will continue or whether the programme will have a fixed duration.

In a related development, the Sindh Labour Department has also approved an endowment fund worth Rs2 billion for the treatment of children affected by HIV, according to officials. The fund is intended to support treatment-related needs, although further details about its implementation were not provided in the available information.
