The Sindh government has approved a new Sindh Wheat Subsidy 2026 package aimed at providing financial relief to wheat growers across the province. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in Karachi. Under the new package, eligible farmers will receive financial assistance of Rs4,000 per acre.
Farmers owning up to 25 acres of land will be eligible for the subsidy scheme. The government expects around 550,000 farmers to benefit from the package, while approximately Rs14.9 billion has been allocated for the main subsidy programme. The total cost could reach nearly Rs16 billion after additional support is included.
The Sindh Cabinet has also increased the additional subsidy for farmers who supply wheat to the Food Department. The amount has been raised from Rs1,000 to Rs2,000 per maund. Officials said more than 56,000 farmers supplied wheat to the department during the previous procurement process.
The government has also decided to reopen registration for eligible farmers. New registrations will be carried out through a digital platform, while existing beneficiaries will undergo verification. The digital process is expected to make registration and payment easier while helping authorities identify eligible farmers.
According to the provincial Agriculture Department, subsidy payments will be made directly to eligible beneficiaries. The government plans to use digital records and banking channels to improve transparency and reduce delays in the distribution of financial assistance.
During the cabinet meeting, several other important decisions were also approved. These included a blockchain-based electronic land transfer system, which will initially be introduced on a pilot basis in selected dehs of Matiari and Sukkur. The system aims to make land ownership transfers more digital and reduce manual intervention.
The cabinet also approved the construction of the 13-storey Bilquis and Abdul Sattar Edhi Medical Tower at the National Institute of Child Health in Karachi. The facility will have 445 beds and is expected to cost around $17 million. Alongside this project, the cabinet approved decisions related to sports, youth policy, higher education and other administrative matters.
