The Taliban has expressed a desire to improve Taliban Pakistan relations, saying it wants continued dialogue and cooperation with Islamabad. Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also said Kabul expects Saudi Arabia to play an important role in resolving differences between the two countries.
Speaking to Arab media, Mujahid welcomed mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia and other countries. He said Afghanistan respects Riyadh’s efforts and hopes Saudi officials can help address issues between Kabul and Islamabad through dialogue.
Mujahid described Saudi Arabia as a friend and said the kingdom could make a positive contribution to improving Taliban Pakistan relations. He also highlighted the respect and affection among Afghans for Saudi Arabia and the two holy mosques.
The comments come amid continued tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Islamabad has repeatedly stated that Afghan territory must not be used against Pakistan. Pakistan has also called for action against groups involved in attacks against the country.
Mujahid said Afghanistan wants to continue discussions and cooperation with Pakistan. He expressed hope that Saudi officials would continue their mediation efforts and help the two sides address their differences through peaceful engagement.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that its main demand is for Afghanistan to prevent its territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan. Islamabad has also called for action against militant groups operating from Afghan soil and threatening Pakistan.
The latest remarks highlight Saudi Arabia’s potential role in efforts to improve Taliban Pakistan relations. Both sides continue to face differences over security and other issues, while diplomatic efforts remain focused on dialogue, cooperation and reducing tensions.
