ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the Houthi militia’s attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia during a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
According to an official statement, the prime minister described the attacks as unacceptable and said they constituted a clear violation of international law. He added that such actions threaten the freedom of navigation, disrupt international trade and pose risks to regional peace, security and stability.
During the call, Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s complete solidarity with the Kingdom, saying that he, the Field Marshal and the people of Pakistan stand firmly with the Saudi leadership and its people during this critical period.
The prime minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity. He stressed that Pakistan remains committed to working with Saudi Arabia and the international community to promote peace, stability and maritime security in the region.
Shehbaz Sharif further emphasized the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of maritime trade through the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, describing these routes as vital for global commerce and energy supplies.
He also conveyed his best wishes to King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and expressed goodwill toward the Saudi leadership.
According to the statement, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman appreciated Pakistan’s consistent support and praised the close brotherly relations between the two countries. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and maintaining close coordination on regional issues.
The telephone conversation came amid heightened regional tensions following attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea, with international concern growing over the security of key maritime trade routes.
